My 2 cents on CWG

This article by me appeared in a magazine some time back. With the CWG mess all around us like a cesspool, thought it would be an appropriate time to reproduce it on my new blog.

Is Sheila Dikshit right in aspiring for hosting the Olympics?

I am all for it. Yes, Sheila Dikshit & Delhi should bid for the Olympics. And I sure hope they win.

The only tiny-weenie problem is that the fast-emptying pockets of the citizens of Delhi will be over by end of this year (due to this grand salute to our erstwhile colonial master). So where will the money come from?

The solution is staring right at our face.

Various sporting objects like footballs, handballs, basketballs, etc. need not be purchased. They can be  made in-house using the hide of the people of Delhi. Other things like bats, racquets, hockey sticks, etc. can be made using the leg and arm bones (may be the odd rib) of many a people who would be willing to sell them off for a quick cash relief. Of course, the videos of Delhites being skinned & boned alive can be sold to BBC or National Geographic or Discovery Channel for a huge sum.

As far as the labour is concerned, all of Delhi’s children can be used for this. Their education is not going to earn them anything anyway considering things are so expensive nowadays. A question on whether their parents would be able to afford to school them is also hung like June’s humid air. But this Olympic vocational training will be invaluable since when they grow up they will have to move to UP, Haryana, or Bihar as daily wage laborers. The whole minimum wage issue will also be resolved, after all Delhi Govt. is only complying with the Right to Education Act.

The Delhi Restaurants will come to aid when hunger pangs strike. They will surely supply the food &  drinks for free. In fact, they could actually be charged, as this will be saving them the cost of disposing off all that food no one has any money left to buy.

What’s more! International guests will have no problems in their stay, without the Delhi Govt. having to spend on another ‘Khel Gaon’. There will be so many ghost colonies in Delhi, with fully furnished, comfortable houses (refurbished on the outside for the CWG- Aaha!), which people would have left to move to other places where everything (even air!) is so much cheaper.

Travel will be no problem at all- Delhi, by then will be left with only Sheila Madam and her cronies (and of course the odd Prime Minister, President, etc.) but they already have their Government vehicles with the commandos. Imagine what a drive will be on those beautiful (and empty) Delhi roads! The brand new, unused buses, auto-rickshaws with the out of this world GPS system, and the pride of Delhi- the Metro- will be waiting with bated breath to be used at this ‘Olympic’ occasion.

Clearly, the greatest CM that Delhi has ever had, Sheila Dikshit, has foreseen all of this and more. That is why she is the CM and we lesser mortals are not. We just keep complaining about rising prices and emptying pockets. Her answer is so simple- "If they can't buy bread, let them eat cake."
